As data centers and other large industrial facilities expand across Texas, their growing demand for water presents new challenges for long-term water planning and resource management. In partnership with Texas Living Waters, HARC developed Balancing the Water Needs of Data Centers and Large Water Users in Texas with the State’s Vision for Long-Term Water Security: Policy Recommendations for the 90th Texas Legislature to provide practical recommendations for balancing continued economic growth with responsible water management.
The policy recommendations focus on four key areas: improving transparency and water-use planning, encouraging responsible use of limited water resources, ensuring large water users pay their fair share of infrastructure costs, and protecting water supplies and communities for the long term. The recommendations are designed to help Texas better understand and plan for the water demands of data centers and other emerging industries while supporting reliable water supplies for communities across the state.
