Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Are Essential to HARC

Creating and sustaining an inclusive organizational culture is a process that takes time, and we commit to that work. We seek input on HARC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) journey from every employee at HARC, along with our Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and existing and future collaborators. At HARC we are learning and improving and will hold our organization and each other accountable. We will make mistakes along the way, but we are determined to listen, learn, innovate, and improve.

Sustainability Requires a

HARC defines sustainability as engaging in practices that consider and support ecological, societal, and economic health and vitality. Sustainability presumes that resources are finite and must be conserved, protected and distributed in a manner that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

A Research Hub Rooted in Sustainability

HARC owes its origins to the vision and initiative of Houston businessman and philanthropist George P. Mitchell, b. 1919 – d. 2013. HARC was established in 1982 as a non-profit university consortium that could act as a technology incubator to bridge basic research and market applications.

In 2001, HARC re-aligned its mission to concentrate our research on sustainable development. Today, HARC engages in research that helps people thrive and nature flourish. Our expertise is focused on the science and engineering needed to understand and address issues related to air quality, clean energy, water resources, and climate risk.

Headquarters – From Net Zero to Beyond

HARC’s researchers and support staff are fortunate in that they have the opportunity to make the world more sustainable. The work is undertaken in a facility and surrounding campus that showcases green building design, technology, and operations in action.
